Dinner

We made homemade wings tonight.

I bet you all wished you had come over for dinner.

They were good.

My sinus infection is finally gone. That was evident tonight.

I'm going to try a different chili sauce another time and see how it turns out. Maybe if I get a little closer to a Native taste, then I will post it on the cooking blog.

Yum.

Now my belly can explode.

It only cost us about $9 for the entire meal. There were about 40 wings.

I just wanted to let you all know that I was thinking about you guys with every bite I took. Love ya.

Now you guys can laugh as I step on the scale tomorrow morning and realize that this delicious dinner will cost me a week of running 5 miles a day to lose all those pounds that I just packed on my bootie.

Kate

I had just finished washing the dirt/snot off Kate and went outside to ask Jayke to take out the recycle. K wanted to help, so she went too. The kids know that when they take out garbage/recycle that they have to wash their hands when they are finished. So, J and K come back in the house and J starts to wash his hands. K runs from the front door to the back door yelling "waddy wash, waddy wash, waddy wash". I stop her and tell her to go wash her hands and she says, "no. waddy wash." I had to sit there and think about what she was trying to tell me--why she wouldn't wash her hands. After I figured it out I just laughed. She was saying "already wash". She thought that since she had just washed her hands not 2 minutes before that she didn't have to wash them afterwards. I explained to her that it didn't matter if she had washed her hands before, when she touched the recycle she got germs on her hands and she needed to wash them off. So she tells me, "tay"(ok) and washes her hands.

Ethan

This is a picture of the only child that did not spill his FULL cup of Koolaid at dinner tonight. See how happy he is? He's overjoyed that HE is the ONLY one to NOT get in trouble.

What an adorable smile. He gets it from his dad.

By the way, dinner is not over, yet. We'll see how it goes.

I normally do not give my kids Koolaid. It's a REAL treat when I do.

I think this might be the last time.

Celery

I dehydrated celery this past week. I knew it had a high water content. I didn't realize it was THIS high. This is an ENTIRE celery plant! If I want to store it in quart-sized jars, I better dry at least 20-30 to make it worth my while to vacuum seal the jar!

Kids

So, I have a huge sinus infection. I've had it for a couple weeks now. It has been horrible. I hate doctors, so I still haven't made an appointment and probably never will. Last night I hurt so bad that I skipped dinner and took a hot bath followed by a burning hot shower. I've heard the steam is good for your sinuses. Afterwards, I took a tylenol and went about my business as a mother and went grocery shopping with the help of the whole family.

Ryan got up early so he could answer the door when Andrew came over at 7am and then put him down for his nap. I woke up at 9:30 and all the kids except Jayke were still asleep. Jayke had started to clean off the table (my clean dishes were still sitting there since last night) and got everyone bowls and poured cereal for everyone. He brought me my plate and asked if it was still clean and I told him yes. Then he goes on to tell me, "You know, Mom, that is one of the worst things you can do when you're sick-skipping dinner. Your body needs the energy to help you get better." I told him that I knew and it probably wasn't a good idea for me to skip dinner. Then he continues, "I know that b/c you told me that before when I was sick."

Oh, aren't they so cute. They really ARE listening, even when they act as though they're not. Jayke is such a big helper for me and is always reminding me of what I need to do. He is so responsible for his young age! He's going to grow up to be a worrier like his mother.

Who am I?

So, I don't know if I am becoming Holly Homemaker or Deena Doomsday.

I went to the farmers market this week. I bought a lot of food. It was really cheap.

I came home and started dehydrating onions, 6 of them to be exact. I chopped the other 7 and froze them in food-saver bags. I sliced 12 kiwis and froze them, too. They'll make good smoothies. I froze 2 pounds of strawberries. They make good smoothies, too. I dehydrated a bunch of broccoli. They'll be good in soup. I bought a couple chili peppers, just so I could dry the seed for the next growing season; they make good enchilada sauce.

Maybe it's just the nice, cool weather that has brought this on.

Maybe somewhere deep inside I know Ryan will get accepted to dental school for this next school year and we'll be broker (is that even a word?) than I ever thought possible and we'll have to actually eat our food storage.

I have been trying really hard to get my year-supply complete and usable. Maybe I need a 4 year supply to help us get through dental school.

I keep seeing things in the store and think, "Oh, I can freeze/bottle/dehydrate/store that. I'll buy a ton of it and do it."

Am I just learning to be more frugal or am I just going crazy, like I thought all along?

I THOUGHT I was having a good day!

My nephew came over a little later than usual (ok, 3 hours later) and he actually seemed to play nice. Maybe he got enough sleep last night. I haven't had to tell him to stop doing anything the entire morning. I thought to myself, "Wow, this is a great day!" Then I went to make lunch for everyone. I got Andrew's, Ethan's, Jayke's and asked Kate what she wanted. Cheese sandwich. Ok, I can do that. Get the stuff out, put it on a plate, put it in the microwave for 18 seconds, give it to her. I go back to cutting broccoli so I can dehydrate it. After a minute or so, I tune in to Kate, (who has been mumbling to me for a while, but I wasn't listening) and realize that she is saying, "cheese, cheese, cheese". I look at her and she is holding her top piece of bread up and looking at the middle of her sandwich with a very confused look on her face. I just LAUGHED at myself. I had made her sandwich completely, even melting the cheese, without ever putting the cheese on her bread! At least I got a good laugh out of it. They say that laughing is good for your health, you know. Maybe I'm a little healthier today.
