Poor Kate

Kate has been sick for a couple weeks now. She's had a runny nose and night coughing. Just a couple days ago, she started getting a fever, too. And her cough got really bad. We noticed that her breathing was really rapid and shallow. She woke up about 5am today and she was burning! She could barely breathe and couldn't stop coughing. Good night pediatrics was already closed and the urgent care/family doctor were not open yet. Ryan decided to take her to the ER. He spent most of the morning there-missing his classes. The Dr. said she had an upper respiratory infection and the x-rays for pneumonia looked 'questionable'. He said she might have an early case of pneumonia, so he gave her antibiotics just in case. R said K was making everyone at the hospital laugh, true to herself. She is definitely R's daughter! Both R and K love to have people happy and love to make people laugh. (Remember R's story of grumpy bear? If not, you'll have to have R tell you about it.) So now both of my cuties are in bed sleeping, trying to make up for getting only 4 hours of sleep last night. Poor guys!

Here are some pics of her silliness. One of the nurses gave her a sheet of stickers to play with while she was having the x-ray done. They had to go into the waiting room after the x-ray until the Dr. was ready to see her. She put a sticker right over her mouth so she couldn't talk. R said all the old people around her in the waiting room were just laughing at how cute she was.

Oh my goodness!

Ok, seriously. I. AM. HUGE. It has only been 3 weeks since my last big belly complaint. I have gained 10 MORE POUNDS! That puts me up to 30 so far. I was showing Ryan my belly last night and he even agreed that I am huge! How is that? A man agreeing that a woman, his wife, is huge and actually saying it with his own words! That is a big deal, and no I don't mind that he said it. I love his honesty! I will get a pic up sometime later this week to show all of you the difference 3 weeks made. R said he wouldn't be surprised if I was having twins. The ultrasound only showed one, so hopefully I'm just big and NOT having twins.

What was I thinking? and my amazing husband!

We had someone in our ward do a gardening class last week. I got so motivated by it that I decided I wanted to do a garden this year. I decided on the perfect location (the side of my front yard that isn't being used by anything) and started to soften the dirt and mix in the organic matter that was sitting on top (leaves from our tree from 3 years ago). While I was at it, I went ahead and dug out the weeds/grass in the garden area in front of my house. It was a really nice day yesterday and it was so relaxing to be outside working in the soil.

When I finished working for the day, at about 6pm, I went to take a shower. This is a tangent story, but I'll tell it all now anyway. The water was slightly warmer than cold. I shivered the whole time. I thought maybe the water heater timer had accidentally been turned on again (it's usually only turned on during the summer peak hours). I didn't think anything else of it until bedtime when I went to do the dishes and the water STILL didn't get warm. I told Ryan to check it out and we figured that our water heater had gone out. I checked out prices of water heaters and they run about $600. Ouch! We definitely could not afford to buy a new one. We started thinking about what we could sell to get the money quick. Ryan went into the other room and started looking at a catalog that he has. He found replacement parts for water heaters for about $20. He decided to look on the internet and see how to fix it himself. He found some directions to test each component to see what was wrong with it and out to the garage he went. A few minutes later he came back in and asked me to help him. I had to stand next to the water heater and listen for a click or watch for sparks (haha) while he turned the power back on. I heard the click and there were no sparks. He came back and told me that the water heater timer was not letting any power through. He had simply bypassed the timer and hooked the electricity straight to the water heater. So, not only was it free to 'fix' the water heater, we had hot water before we went to bed! Boy, am I lucky to have such a smart husband! It amazes me what he is able to fix!

Back on to my first story. After I finished out in the yard, I went to make dinner. I could tell my body was a little sore, but I didn't worry about it. By bedtime, I wished I had a live-in massage therapist. I could barely walk around. Each time I moved my legs, I would have needles shooting up and down the back of my legs. The first few times it happened, I thought I had a thorn in my clothes and actually checked my clothes to see if anything was there. All night my back was just achy and had the sciatic nerve thing going on. Now that I am awake, my muscles are so tender I just want to stretch them! I know I shouldn't have worked the ENTIRE day yesterday with a shovel and bending over the whole time. (Here's more proof that I'm not 24 anymore, Shelane.) But the crazy thing is, I want to do more today! I think I'm going to get my potato cages ready today and maybe level out some more of my back yard (it's almost done!) I just LOVE working outside in nice weather! I think I'm addicted to dirt.

Update

I just updated the diaper tutorial with all the pics, so hopefully it will be a little easier to understand.

Also, a lot of people have been asking for updates on Ryan's Dental School applications. He applied to 5 schools. Of those 5, 1 has denied him, 1 said their class is already full, 2 have interviewed him and 1 is still interviewing in-state students. Of the 2 schools that he interviewed with, neither have denied or accepted him. He is on the waiting list. Basically, they go on a rolling admission, so those that apply early have the best chances of getting in. When you interview with a school, you are put on a list of either high, medium or low ranking. When Dec 1 came around, those that were already on the high list got their acceptance letters (those that did well in the interview and applied during summertime). If they turned down the school's offer, the school goes to the next person on the list. They keep doing this until the class is full (usually April). So, even if you are better qualified than someone else, it all goes by when you applied and which of the 3 lists you are on. We are just keeping our fingers crossed that he gets in his first year applying, rather than 2nd/3rd year like most people. Either way, we know he will get in, we just might have to wait a little while before he starts the next 4 years of his life.

So I didn't do laundry in time...

Last week Ryan was using the 220 outlet that we normally use for our dryer. He had some big machine in the garage that needed 220 instead of 110. I had already washed the diapers for the day; they just needed to be dried. Ryan finished his work and we hurried to the store (forgetting to put the diapers in the dryer).

Kate was in her last clean diaper.

When we got home from the store, her diaper was wet. We found a stray disposable sitting around, so we decided to put it on until her cloth ones were dry. We decided to let her wear it until bedtime, which was 2 hours later, that way we wouldn't waste a diaper.

When I went to change her, she kept telling me 'owie diaper'. She had a horrible rash on her bootie. TWO HOURS! Who gets a diaper rash from wearing a disposable diaper for only 2 hours? Kate does! This rash lasted for 3 days. Something must have happened to her body during this past 1 1/2 months to where she can't handle disposables at all anymore.

Now when she sees disposables, she says 'owie baby diaper'.
Never again will I put a disposable on her little tooshie.
Lucky girl; she LOVES her cloth diapers.

Here's proof

If my baby is supposed to only weigh about a pound, WHY HAVE I GAINED 20?????? Seriously. I am HUGE! I haven't been able to sleep for a month now and I still have 4 more months to go! My stomach is already stretching so bad that I am getting stretch marks. It hurts just to wake up in the morning! And this little girl never stops moving, especially when I'm trying to sleep! I can't even imagine what it's going to be like when she is 8+ lbs in my belly! Can you imagine the internal bruising that by body will have? Why do people do this to themselves?
This is from today. 24 weeks and 5 days. Ignore the blurriness and the spots on the kids' mirror. I AM huge! I roll around in bed like a beached whale. I can't move anymore. My bigger-sized maternity clothes are getting tight. Do I just go to the XXXL size and wear mumu's for the next 4 months? You would never believe I was at my high-school weight in May, would you? I'm definitely not now! And no, the cup size is not my normal size, it's preggo super-sized, so don't judge my belly size against that. How much bigger can one belly get? Ugh! May, won't you come soon, PLEASE!
