Competition

I remember back when I was in elementary school, Shelane and I were in the chess club together. I thought I was hot stuff. I thought it was so exciting to go on field trips for all the tournaments. I even won a medal one time. Though looking back, I'm sure everyone won them, but I really felt important for winning it.

I never really had anyone that was good enough at chess to actually make me think. I mean really think! That is, until Jayke had a chess class at school this past semester. Jayke decided to show me his new-found skills last week. Man! He put me in checkmate two times before I knew what was going on. I thought, "Ok. I haven't played in a while, maybe I'm a little rusty." So I told him to play one more game. This time I was watching his moves a little more closely and was able to put him in checkmate. Maybe I was getting back in my groove. One more game. He won again! I couldn't believe it! We were at 3-1. We ended up playing two more games and we each won another. So, the score at the end of the day was 4-2 in favor of Jayke. I decided to stop there while I at least had a little dignity left.

Hopefully after a few more playing sessions I'll be good enough to beat him again.
