Book worm

After Ethan finished the Percy Jackson books, he needed something else to read.

After looking through the bookshelf, he decided to try Hatchet. After three days he happily announced that he had finished it. He is now on to The Courage of Sarah Noble

I just love how he is completely on fire with his reading! I was so nervous last year that he would never get to this point. I think every parent worries about whether their kids will be good readers or not, but I think it is worse with me since we homeschool. His ability to read or not is a direct reflection upon me and my teaching. Whether he is educated enough to get a good job as an adult is a result of how and what I teach him. That's a lot of responsibility to bear! Learning to be a competent reader is a turning point in a child's education. Before that turning point, the parent/teacher is the main source of knowledge. After that point, they are really free to explore and learn what they like when they would like to. I am so thankful that we have reached that turning point in Ethan! It doesn't mean that homeschooling will be any easier, but it definitely means that I will worry less.

If you were wondering why I would allow him to have such a huge sugary drink next to him while his dad is in school to be a dentist, it is because I took the kids on a special date and that is what all the kids requested. It just proves that I don't always say no to all of my kids' requests.
