As Spring turns into Summer, I find myself disliking the overabundant heat. I cannot wait until we can move somewhere cooler and wetter. Since I am destined to stay here for 3 more years, I might as well find beauty while I am here. Here are a few things that keep me going everyday.
This is the view from my kitchen window. I tore out grass in my backyard last year to plant some seeds. I am certainly glad I did because I have these beauties to look at while I am cooking dinner.
Our strawberry garden has 100 plants this year. I have been wanting to plant this garden for three years because Ryan loves homegrown strawberries so much. This year it finally happened. Now I'm just hoping I can keep them alive until next year when we will actually have a good harvest.
The blackberry bushes finally got birdnetting on them. There are thousands of berries on the bushes this year. With the netting, we might actually be able to have sweet berries before the birds get to them.
The peach trees actually have a lot of fruit on them this year. I am hoping they actually grow into peaches rather than the few duds that we had last year. Just walking by the trees and smelling their peachiness makes me itch with childhood memories of climbing into the peach trees mid-summer and plucking off the enormous, juicy globes of deliciousness.
My volunteer tomatoes are taking over the garden. I can't even get my zucchini to grow because the tomato plants are so huge. I can't wait to start eating all the tomatoes fresh from the plant in a few weeks.
My cantaloupe plants are inching up to the sky on a make-shift trellis, with beautiful blue skies smiling down.
A volunteer sunflower getting ready to bloom.
My apple tree is overloaded with apples this year. This, too, received birdnetting so we can actually eat some of them this year.
Blossoms on our other apple tree. Hopefully they will grow larger than the bouncy ball sized ones we got last year.
I love these flowers from my backyard garden. I look forward to the day when my entire yard looks like this and not just one tiny corner.
